WordPress Admin Customization Without Code

This entry is part 22 of 30 in the series 30 Day Plugin Challenge

There are a lot of  free plugins in the WordPress repository that allow you to change the login design of your WordPress theme and customize it to suit your brand or your clients but there are only a few that will change the login and change the admin area dashboard.

Branding your login area makes it easy for visitors.   They know that they are still on the same site and haven’t been whipped off to another third party site and they have a continuous association with your branding while registering.    Once users register on a WordPress blog they are taken to the Dashboard where they can complete their User Profile.     Wouldn’t it be nice if this also matched the branding of the rest of your site rather than the default WordPress “look”?

While this admin branding is useful for every day subscribers to your blog there is also a need for admin branding for:

  • membership sites; and
  • sites built for clients

There’s one plugin that I really like for this (not just because it’s developed in Australia :) ).    The White Label CMS plugin makes it possible to completely brand your WordPress blog.   Not only that but it also allows Menu and Panel customization – making it easier for the Webmaster to “hide” certain parts of WordPress from clients so that they only have the relevant information required to tend to their blog.     A nice touch is the ability to add a “welcome” message.    This is especially useful if you are running a membership site and need to guide new members what to do next and to help a client navigate around their new WordPress site.
