Static Page + Blog + Opt In Form
What an imaginative title!
It seems that I get a lot of questions via email, twitter and forums that all revolve around the same sort of thing. A lot of people want to know how to make a static front page for their new WordPress site but still have a blog with posts cycling through. How to make an optin box in the sidebar with a pretty image is also a common question.
So, here’s a quick vid that shows you how to do all of those things

If you want to have more control over the look and feel of your new blog you can install the Blog in Blog plugin that will give you more features.
If you want to tart up the static front page, perhaps not even have a sidebar at the front, then you can make a new page template especially for the front of your site.
