Quick And Easy Blog Database Housekeeping

When I write blog posts I make loads of mistakes!

It’s unbelievable how many errors I will make when writing a blog post.  Of course, there are the usual suspects like spelling and grammar, forgetting the category and inserting incorrect links.

WordPress makes it super easy to fix mistakes by just using the edit link to edit your post or page and clicking to update.

The only problem with editing your post is that you end up with revisions in your blog database.   If you make loads of mistakes then over time you could end up with loads of revised posts in your database.

The problem with having revised posts in your database is that it slows the database and therefore your blog down.

This was a problem I recently had when I was playing with a plugin and had over 36000 tweetbacks in my wp database.

You can fix this easily by going to your cpanel of your web host and cleaning out your database tables via php my admin.   Personally, I’m way too lazy to do that for a few revised posts!  What I do is use a quick, free plugin to clean up my data base.    My fave plugin for this job is to the WP Optimize plugin.

As well as cleaning up your post revisions this plugin also cleans spam comments, unapproved comments and optimizes database tables.

I usually run the plugin every now and again when I make a post to my blog.  I certainly don’t run it all the time – again I’m lazy!

Enjoy
