Customer Reviews WordPress Plugin

This entry is part 19 of 30 in the series 30 Day Plugin Challenge

There are a lot of review  plugins in the WordPress community nowadays (sadly a lot of them are a bit janky).    Often it is great to have a “review” style plugin when you are creating affiliate sites to add some extra visitor appeal to your site.

But, there are other types of sites that could do with reviews as well :)

The first type of site that could benefit from a review style plugin is for product creators.      Product creators often release products, gather some testimonials to embed on the sales page and then let the page just sit there without any further update or feedback from real buyers (I’ve been guilty myself of doing this).     If it was easy though for buyers to leave reviews of the product then the product creator would benefit by the user generated content on the page and the social proof garnered by these user reviews.

Other sites that would benefit from customer reviews are brick and mortar sites that have an online presence.     Nowadays the catch cry in local offline marketing is “reputation management” and reviews from real customers about their experience with the store can build a business’ online reputation.

There are a number of  testimonial style plugins that you could use (some sadly don’t work that well) but there is one plugin that is specifically designed for customers to leave reviews.

The Customer Reviews WordPress plugin allows visitors to submit a review form and rate your site.     The reviews are moderated so the webmaster gets to decide which reviews are published or not.    What I really like about this plugin is that it:

  • can be used on a networked installation
  • on multiple pages
  • the style sheet can be customized to suit your theme

I do have to admit that I have a premium Customer Reviews WordPress plugin but this free plugin is almost as good as my paid one :)
