Lots happening in WP world this week! Luckily for you there are a lot of free resources in this post (otherwise your wallet could be a lot lighter!)
LTW content shortcodes – this plugin allows you to quickly add tabs, columns, button and toggle effects to your WordPress theme. Many WordPress themes have these features in built. If you are using a theme that doesn’t have shortcode support now you can add some shortcode magic to your site quickly and easily. The downside is that there are only four short codes : (. There are, however, a lot of other shortcode plugins if you want more features so check out the repository. There are also some paid plugins over at Code Canyon that have more advanced shortcode features.
Sched Embed – Sched is an event management site that allows you to really impress attendees at your event. You need to join the Sched site and from there you can add the attendees of your event, add sessions at events and, of course, add your event. If you run conferences, events or workshops you may find this site useful. Sched has some other additional features which may be worth checking out on their free sign up. You should note that to use the site starts at $99 per annum. One of the nice things about Sched is how well the event, schedule and details displays on a mobile device (probably where most attendees will be looking for information) and it is described as:
Lightening fast mobile app. Your Mobile App automatically stays up-to-date and keeps your attendees informed. And since the data is stored locally, you’ll be safe even if wifi goes down
When you use the Sched service they provide you with your own “schedule website” which is hosted and backed up. The free WordPress plugin allows you to easily embed your Sched event in your site which is, normally, not possible.
Facetious – Simple little plugin that allows you to add an advanced search form to your site
Shop on Page – this plugin integrates a “shop” button on yoru site which links to the Shop On Page network affiliate program. It inserts a button on the side of screen and only shows “relevant products” when visitors click the button. It would be more useful if their site had full details of the affiliate program being operated, where these products are coming from, how you can target specific products, when the payout is and when you are paid. Strangely the plugin FAQ states “you will be contacted by our accounting when you earn more than $20 USD” if that is meant to fill me with confidence – it doesn’t. A decent FAQ section is seriously needed here.
SB RSS Feed Plus – improves the default WordPress RSS feed by adding images and a signature at the end of each feed, you can also insert an image ad in your feed.
Changes – helps you compare your original article with the one you have edited and determine how it changed. You are given a report (color coded) of how the content has been changed. If you use private label right articles on your site you might find this plugin helpful.
Premise iDevAffiliate Integration – if you use the Premise theme and want to create an affiliate program with iDevAffiliate then this plugin will integrate the two for you.
Mp3 to Flash Player the idea behind this plugin is to send an article to other blogs. Sadly, the description of this plugin is limited. Could be useful but will wait to see more information on it listed in the repository or at least a demo site.
Gabeni – is a plugin that automatically backs up your site and stores it on the Gabeni server. The cost for using the server is $10 per year. You should note that there are many back up plugins that integrate with your OWN Amazon S3 server, dropbox or your own server. You can also use services like Manage WP or WP Twin automator to back up your sites.
Lead Outcome this is another integration plugin. It allows you to integrate the Lead Outcome sales system in your WordPress site. You will need to have a LeadOutcome.com account to use it. The accounts are either free or up to $39.99 per month. The plugin specifically seems to help with creating optin forms for your site – it doesn’t appear the full suite of Lead Outcome tools is displayed/accessed via the WordPress Dashboard. The Lead Outcome system contains a set of tools (emails, tracking, conversions and CRM) to help with your lead tracking and sales team management.
Remove n Disable – this plugin has a lot of options to either use or disable links in your WordPress dashboard. Particularly useful if you are making sites for clients and want to “clean up” the back end by removing information that may confuse a client. There are many free and paid “client management” style plugins for WordPress but it’s always good to have another in the arsenal.
WP Stacker – Allows you to post links from GetPocket.com (formerly Read it Later) automatically to your blog. You simply save links in your GetPocket account, add any notes etc and direct them to your blog. Quick and easy way to keep visitors informed of relevant and interesting things that you have found on the web.
Super Responsive Slider – Easily create multiple sliders for your site . You also have over 40 effects that you can use between images.
Full Screen Image Slideshow – A nifty plugin that I see a lot of uses for. It allows you to have a full screen background image on your site with the content overlayed and in slideshow format. I don’t think the developer did himself any favours with the demonstration screenshots he uploaded. However, if you had some awesome graphics (think how good a simple animation stick figure could be!) you could complete a stunning and interesting site. You can upload 10 slides and choose whether there is an overlay or not displaying.
This could be a wonderful addition for photography, short stories, kiddies books, comics and ecommerce websites. It’s my pick of the week for free plugins.
Fastest CSS Editor – if you like tweaking your css then you’ll love this little plugin that lets you tweak from the dashboard and have a live preview of your changes.
Minimum Password Strength forces users to have a medium strength password.
ROI Sales Machine – thisis a wordpress plugin that allows you to embed a sales presentation (or presumably any presentation) into your stie. Once you have done an audit of a business you can plug in some simple numbers to show your potential prospect where you could increase their ROI with your brilliant marketing 🙂 Not only that, this is a tool that your clients themeselves may be able to use in their business if they are selling to other businesses or to consumers. You would simple copy the presentation to each target business you have prospected. The concept behind the plugin is to have your presentation ready on site and open up your laptop with the prospect and go through the presentation (with the ROI numbers added in) and let it do the closing for you.
WP Semantic At the time of writing the plugin hasn’t been officially released to the public. This plugin is designed to help you write better content by using semantic keywords. The plugin fetches real time semantic keywords related to your content for inclusion in your article. The semantic keywords are not fetched from Google but, as yet, I’m not sure where from (I presume social media)
Amazon Search Bar This plugin adds a full Amazon search bar to your site on your home page, pages and posts. It is ideal for Amazon sites that are getting traffic, but perhaps not many buyers. Using this plugin visitiors can search Amazon for the products that they like without leaving your site (and there is a 90 day cookie). This helps your site get more stickiness and hopefully more sales for you. This is my fave plugin from the premium list this week.
Ringy Dingy Mobile Plugin – makes it easy to create a mobile website from your WordPress blog. I have to say that there are a lot of mobile WordPress plugins, some with beautiful graphics and you should do your research first before buying.
I haven’t had a little rant for a while so I’ll have one today. A lot of the themes that have been released lately for internet marketers seem to concentrate on two things “lead generation” and “amazon”. That’s great. Problem is, they all look pretty much the same. When I find soemthing different and interesting it’ll get a spot here —>
I did find a nice clean looking Review Theme that is free to download. You do have to opt in to get the theme.
Experts theme – great theme if you have products or services. It has a range of in built shortcodes and is very clean and stylish as well as responsive. This is a premium theme and is available in either single site (you can use on your own domains) or multi site licence (you can use on your sites, clients and flip sites made with the theme)
Project Press from Themeforest turns your wordpress site into a project management site where people have to login to view projects. If you are bootstrapping for a project management software then this could be a quick, easy solution for you.
5G Blacklist for WordPress
Not a plugin or a theme but some helpful urls to blacklist from your site. The team at Perishable Press have published their latest 5G Blacklist of malicious url requests. The code is available from them here .You need to insert the code in your .ht access file. Please, please, take a back up of your .htaccess file first in case something goes wrong! Also, please note that you are free to use the code but you should retain the credit link to Perishable Press.
Local Desktop Server
Again, not a plugin or theme but software. The new version of Server Press is out which is a desktop server . It makes it easy for you to create multiple virtual servers on your computer. This makes the task of developing sites and testing plugins without being connected to the interwebs easier. It works on Macs and PC’s and is available in a free and paid version.
