Problems With Widgets Sticking In WP 2.8
The other day I was building a site and something strange happened. My widgets would not move – they would not drag or drop anywhere. After scratching my head, changing my theme and deactivating plugins I found the problem. In WordPress 2.8 there is a little problem with widgets (probably caused by some javascript) where they sometimes stick.
There is an easy fix which I tweeted about the other day
All you need to do is go to Appearance/Widgets and click the link for Screen Options

Now the options box will open up and you’ll see this link

Now just click the link to enable accessibility mode
Now when you go back to your Widgets you will see that they now have a link on the side that says "Add" click that to add to your sidebar

Now you just need to configure the widget by choosing which sidebar you want to add it to, and add the position where you want the widget to appear in the sidebar

Simple fix to a v. frustrating problem

Hi
Thank you so much for your easy to read and informative advice. I followed ypour instructions and the widgets came up with ‘edit’ so I edited each one as to right or left sidebar and what position, 1, 2 etc and saved
However it didn’t do the trick and I am still stuck with all of the widgets in the left sidebar for some unknown reason!

change your theme and see if it works. If not, deactivate each plugin one by one and test
