Christmas Is Coming – Time To Decorate Your Blog

best wordpress hosting

Christmas is not too far away and nothing says Christmas more than a spot of decorating on your blog.

You can change the theme to something new and Christmasy for the silly season and immediately give your blog a facelift.     Just search for “Christmas wordpress themes” and you’ll find loads of examples.    There’s also a free Christmas wordpress theme here.

Of course, it’s WordPress so you can automatically schedule the date when you want to change your theme just by using a plugin.

You can try the Motif Automatic WordPress Theme Changer

or the Change Template plugin

If you don’t want to change the entire theme consider just changing the header by adding in a Christmas graphic.   If you have a person as an image on the graphic give them a makover by adding a santa hat or something suitably Christmasy.

If you don’t want to change the entire header graphic how about adding in a graphic just in a text widget in your sidebar.    There’s loads that you can do to decorate your blog.

Some people may find it annoying but personally I love the snow falling wordpress plugins.   These plugins drop images of snowflakes falling on your blog which immediately conjures up an image of Christmas in the winter, a log fire with stockings over it and Santa crawling on the roof.   Of course, in Australia I’ve never experienced a winter Christmas.  In Australia it is more about fly swatting and grabbing the sunscreen at that time of the year!

Two great snowfall plugins are:

Let It Snow

Snow

and the one that I use by Andy Beard called Snowfall (currently he is fiddling with his hosting).I did write to Andy and he advised that Snowfall will be available this Chrissy.

You could also add a countdown clock for the number of days until Christmas.   You can try this one or  if you are still using a WordPress 2.6 blog you could try this flash banner called Christmas Sprite

If they don’t tickle your fancy then you could use any of the cute countdowns in your sidebar (or posts) that Widgetbox have.

If you really want to get into the spirit of Christmas the Happy Christmas plugin will create a skin, an image and a song in your blog.

If you are more subtle than that you might like the WordPress Holidays plugin that shows candy images together with your message in your posts and asks your readers to subscribe to your rss feed. This is a  nice way to mix fun and work

Lots to choose from and enjoy!
