How to install WordPress on a Wamp server
If you are a designer, theme developer or a serial WordPress theme tweaker you may find it useful to install WordPress on your computer as a local host. This is a good idea when you have a slow internet connection, on an internet plan or just have problems accessing internet in general. When you install WordPress on your computer you can customize your themes without being online at all.
In order to install WordPress locally you first of all need to install some software on your computer. There are a number of options available (free to use). The one that I have installed on my PC is a WAMP server but I’ve also used XAMP (PC & Mac) as well.
Briefly the steps to get started with on your computer are as follows:
- Simply download the software to your computer and install
- Download the latest version of WordPress
- Extract the WordPress files to the wamp/www folder
- Configure WordPress
- Create a database
- Create a username and password
This video walks you through the process of installing WordPress on a Wamp server.
