What’s the Point of Photo Blogging?

Everyone relates to different forms of media.  I make know bones about it I’m a text gal.   Give me something to read and I’m  happy.  Make me watch a video and I’m unhappy. I’ll multi task like crazy because I have no control over the video (although I do use speeding up software it’s often not fast enough)  Personally, I only do videos for things because I know that other people like to learn that way.   Photos are the pits for me.   Give me a diagram of something and generally I’ll turn it upside down and be totally confused as to what it is about. To me diagrams are the equivalent of an Ikea instruction manual …suffice to say there are always bits left over when I follow the diagram! Mind maps I get because there is text there ….but pictures nope!

But there are some pictures that even a person who is text based rather than visually based understands and that is photographs.    There is nothing like posting a beautiful image of a sunset on your blog to set the mood for the day.   Some days I can just look at someone’s freshly brewed coffee on their facebook page to feel motivated (why doesn’t anyone post pictures of chocolate though???)

Creating a blog that is dedicated to photographs is a fantastic opportunity to unleash the creative side of yourself and share with others a snapshop of your life.

One of the advantages of using images for your content is that it’s so easy to create.   Nowadays all you need to do is flip out your iphone and point it at something and voila, press another button to upload to your blog and you’ve done your work for the day!   Much easier than sitting down trying to communicate an emotion, an instruction or overcoming writer’s block.  Even someone technically challenged like me is able to manage it (and yes I am technically challenged – this year I learnt to turn the tv on!)

Yes, I know, all the “real photographers” will be screaming at my comment that it’s easy! I do understand that real photographers spend a lot of time learning their craft and naturally their photos will reflect that :) But for quick creation of content I’ll take my iphone and Genius App any day of the week.

Just like a normal text based blog you can take your photos on the run, upload them to your blog and schedule them to post whenever you like.   You can be picking the kids up from school or out for a walk and still technically “working”.    For me, this means that I can schedule in as many coffee breaks as I fancy as I search the city for the best cup of coffee and toast and I’m still working.

A photoblog is a great way to get started blogging if you struggle to write (a picture after all is worth a thousand words), if your visitors prefer visual based blogs, if you want to showcase your talents or your portfolio of work, if you have something worthwhile sharing, if you enjoy photography  and perhaps, if you just want to brighten someone’s day with your snapshop of life.

Have a look on the net for inspiration on how to structure your photoblog ie what theme it should take, daily life, landscapes, portraits, cute animals – you name it.

Then find a WordPress theme to showcase your talents.   Here’s a few free ones to get you started:

ViewPort
Photo Gallery
Fotofolio
F8Lite
Birdsite

Enjoy

P.S. I got into the spirit of things and snapped my dog “Minnie” for this post (I often refer to her as a beach ball on legs but I love her  heaps!) And, I don’t think my photographs are worthy of quitting my day job!!!

Have fun with WP :)
